History of Gambling in London

According to the latest statistics, UK has around 140 gambling facilities. Out of these, around 25 are in London alone.

For a long time now in UK, Bingo & Sports betting have been legal. Many small casinos, neither legal nor illegal operated prior to 1968. The Gambling Act of 1968 legalized casinos. Laws have been gradually relaxed since and casinos are now opened for longer hours. New table games and larger casinos were introduced. Casinos operating under 1968 rule allowed maximum 20 slot machines. In 2005, ""regional casinos"" were introduced by Gambling Act of 2005. It allowed for more areas, with casinos bigger in size and more gaming tables having more slots.

Casinos in London generally have 5 to 20 table games. They are limited to 20 slots and maximum prize of Euro 10,000 for a stake of upto Euro 5.According to history, the  largest casino of England was Grosvenor Victoria casino with around 36 games.

Historically, the opening time of casinos was between 2pm and 4am. Although today, most of the casinos open for 24 hours a day. On Christmas Day & New Year, all the casinos of London are closed.
